  10.        This chapter lists supplemental information to the _I_R_I_Xr
  11.        _S_o_f_t_w_a_r_e _I_n_s_t_a_l_l_a_t_i_o_n _G_u_i_d_e.  The information listed here is
  12.        product-specific; use it with the installation guide to
  13.        install this product.

  15.        2.1  _D_B_A__S_u_b_s_y_s_t_e_m_s

  17.        Following is a description of the DBA subsystems:

  19.        _d_b_a._s_w._d_b_a                  Kernel enhancements for generic
  20.                                    database performance. This
  21.                                    installs a specialized async I/O
  22.                                    mechanism currently supported
  23.                                    with Oracle 8, Informix, and
  24.                                    Sybase servers. (Please see the
  25.                                    Special Notes in section 4 of
  26.                                    these release notes.) This
  27.                                    subsystem replaces the
  28.                                    _e_o_e._s_w._d_a_t_a_b_a_s_e__a_c_c_e_l subsystem
  29.                                    from previous IRIX releases.

  31.        _d_b_a._s_w._o_r_a_c_l_e               Specific enhancements for the
  32.                                    Oracle database server. Features
  33.                                    are a post&wait driver (Oracle 7
  34.                                    and 8) and kernel listio (Oracle
  35.                                    7 only).

  41.        2.2  _D_B_A__S_u_b_s_y_s_t_e_m__D_i_s_k__U_s_e

  43.        This section lists the DBA option subsystems and their
  44.        sizes.  Those subsystems marked ``default'' are selected for
  45.        installation in the distribution software. If you are
  46.        installing DBA software for the first time, these subsystems
  47.        are installed if you use the ``go'' menu item from _i_n_s_t.  To
  48.        select a different set of subsystems for installation, use
  49.        _i_n_s_t's ``install,'' ``remove,'' ``keep,'' and ``step''
  50.        commands to customize the selection list. Then, use the
  51.        ``go'' menu item to install the selected subsystems.

  53.        Note:  The listed subsystem sizes are approximate. Refer to
  54.               the _I_R_I_X _S_o_f_t_w_a_r_e _I_n_s_t_a_l_l_a_t_i_o_n _G_u_i_d_e for information
  55.               on finding exact sizes.

  81.        2.3  _I_n_s_t_a_l_l_a_t_i_o_n__M_e_t_h_o_d

  83.        All of the subsystems for DBA can be installed using IRIX.
  84.        You do not need to use the miniroot.  Refer to the _I_R_I_X
  85.        _S_o_f_t_w_a_r_e _I_n_s_t_a_l_l_a_t_i_o_n _G_u_i_d_e for complete installation
  86.        instructions. You will need to reconfigure the system with
  87.        autoconfig(8M) and reboot to complete the installation.

  89.        2.4  _P_r_e_r_e_q_u_i_s_i_t_e_s
  90.  
  91.        Your system must be running IRIX 6.5, IRIX 6.5ASE, or a
  92.        supported IRIX 6.5 maintenance release to use DBA release
  93.        3.0. You must install Patch SG0003126 on IRIX 6.5 or IRIX
  94.        6.5ASE to enable some Database Accelerator features. Do not
  95.        install Patch SG0003126 if you are running IRIX 6.5.1 or any
  96.        later release.

  98.        /_v_a_r/_s_y_s_g_e_n/_m_a_s_t_e_r._d/_p_o_s_t_w_a_i_t You may want to modify this
  99.               file if you plan to run more than 4 Oracle databases
  100.               on your system, or if you plan to have more than 512
  101.               back-end server processes for a database. This file
  102.               is unchanged from previous DBA releases.

  104.        /_v_a_r/_s_y_s_g_e_n/_m_a_s_t_e_r._d/_k_a_i_o You may want to modify this file
  105.               if you plan to run a very I/O-intensive database on
  106.               your system. This file is unchanged from previous
  107.               releases.

  109.        2.5  _O_t_h_e_r__I_n_s_t_a_l_l_a_t_i_o_n__I_n_f_o_r_m_a_t_i_o_n

  111.        While it is not necessary to install this product from the
  112.        miniroot, it is necessary to reboot your system in order to
  113.        complete the installation for _d_b_a._s_w._d_b_a or _d_b_a._s_w._o_r_a_c_l_e.
